Kurt A. Wever, M.D., Chief of Staff

Doctor Wever is board certified in family medicine. He completed his undergraduate studies in pre-med at the University of California, Riverside before completing his MD at UCLA. For the next 11 years, he served in the United States and in Germany as an Air Force physician. Dr. Wever has lived in Colorado since 1995 and currently practices in Cripple Creek.

He partners with his patients to help them set and attain their own goals for health care. His great interest is in making people feel that the clinic is their medical home. He also admits patients to Cripple Creek Rehab and Wellness Nursing Home and is the Medical Director of Prospect Home Care and Hospice. He is also involved with Teller County Public Health.

His hobbies include playing trombone in a swing band and playing piano for the worship band at his church where he is actively involved. He also enjoys discussing politics.

Dr. Wever and his wife, Molly, have three grown children.




Richard M. Malyszek, M.D.

Rick Malyszek, M.D. is a board certified General Surgeon and a fellow of the American College of Surgeons. Doctor Malyszek has been in private practice for four years following completion of a four-year commitment with the U.S. Army. His scope of practice includes all aspects of general surgery with an emphasis on laparoscopic and minimally invasive surgery.

He performs general thoracic, endoscopic, and limited pediatric surgeries. Doctor Malyszek has had extensive training in intensive care management and trauma.

Doctor Malyszek is the Service Chief for the Surgery Department and also acts as Vice Chief of Staff at PPRH.




Randolph L. James, M.D.

Doctor James is board certified in Family Medicine. He completed his undergraduate studies in History and German at Baylor University. He spent one year in graduate studies at the University of Mainz in Germany before returning to the United States to enter medical school at the University of Kansas. After attaining his medical degree, he joined the Air Force and completed his residency training in Family Medicine at Ft Bragg, NC. Since then he has served two overseas tours of duty in Japan and Germany. Doctor James practices medicine based on a philosophy that is founded on prevention. He loves to use the concepts of integrated medicine to achieve optimum wellness in each individual.

He provides a full spectrum of family medicine care, but especially enjoys adult and pediatric primary care, asthma and allergy medicine, womens' health, sports medicine, and minor surgical procedures. His hobbies include running, hiking, mountain biking, almost any sport, and he loves to read. He is also very active in his local church.

Doctor James and his wife, Marcie, have two sons.




Matthew C. Young, M.D.

Doctor Young was board-certified in family medicine in 2002, and spent four years Active Duty in the Air Force. He received his bachelor's degree in Pre-Med from University of Scranton, Scranton, PA. He attained his medical degree from Medical College of Pennsylvania/Hahnemann University in 1999. He has lived in Woodland Park for over three years.

He specializes in primary care, and excels in pediatrics, adult medicine, geriatrics, and performs multiple procedures. His hobbies include running, mountain biking, weight lifting, skiing, and hiking.

He and his wife, April, have three children.




Michael G. Messner, D.O.

Michael G. Messner, D.O. is a Board Certified Orthopedic Surgeon, who performs total knee and hip replacements, arthroscopy and reconstructive surgery of the knee and shoulder, as well as trauma related general orthopedic surgery for all ages. He received his undergraduate degree from the Colorado State University and attended Medical School at the Texas College of Osteopathic Medicine.

He completed his internship and residency at Meridia South Pointe Hospital, part of The Cleveland Clinic Hospital System, in Ohio. Doctor Messner has served as a Team Physician for the U.S. Disabled Ski Team since 1992. As an avid skier and former Biathlete and runner, he brings personal experience and understanding to his practice for young skiers and athletes.

He is a member of the Colorado Medical Society and American Medical Association. He grew up in Colorado Springs and enjoys serving the Woodland Park and surrounding areas with a high level of compassionate orthopedic care.




Richard Y. Harris, M.D.

Doctor Harris has been a family practitioner since 1974. He completed his undergraduate studies in Biology at UC San Diego, and received his medical degree from The University of Southern California in 1973. He began private practice as the Idarado mine doctor in Telluride where he worked for two years, and then spent two years practicing emergency medicine at St. Mary-Corwin Hospital in Pueblo.

When Doctor Harris wanted to return to family medicine, he opened his first clinic in Woodland Park at the Gold Hill Square Shopping Center in 1978. Ten years later he was able to build his own office next to the high school where he continues to provide comprehensive primary medical care for many patients in the Ute Pass area.

Dr. Harris believes that good patient care involves prevention as well as effective and safe treatment for medical and surgical problems. He bases his care on a thorough understanding of both the patient and the problem being treated, and will take as much time as is necessary with each patient to achieve this level of care.
